The Great British Pie Debate

  • 2 min read

It’s British Pie Week next week. Which in our office means one thing: serious debate.Steak & ale versus pork pie. North v South.

Good pies, like good clothes, don’t happen by accident. They’re made by skilled hands. They take time. They’re part of the places they come from.So in honour of Pie Week, we’re sharing a few favourites from team CC and some of our brilliant manufacturing partners around the UK.

Because whether it’s a Cornish pasty from Kernow, a steak & ale from a small-town bakery, or a pork pie from York, what we really love is this: people making things well, in the places they call home.

Here are a few of ours:

Patrick, Pie Eater-in-Chief

"No one makes a better pie than Stosie and Kathy at The Parkers Arms, in the Forest of Bowland, about 10 miles north of our base in Blackburn. Current pie of choice is the venison."

Tony, Marketing

"A Pork Pie from York Shambles."

Vanessa, Brisbane Moss, Todmorden

"My nephews have a butchers shop in Garstang and they do amazing pies with pork pies being their biggest seller.  I’ve attached a picture of their pork pies and scotch pies.  They also do Chunky Steak, Steak & Kidney, Meat & Potato, Cheese & Onion, Chicken & Leek, Mince, Butter pies. I’m not biased but they are delicious – well worth a try."

Susan, Finance

"Cornish pasty from Kernow (the Cornish name for Cornwall)."

Victoria, HR

"A Scotch Pie from Forsyths of Peebles and it has to be topped with baked beans!"

Paul, Corah Knitwear,Nottingham

"The scotch pies in Going Native Heritage Meats, Hawick"

Holly, Merchandising

"My nana used to make us pot pie for my dad and me on Sundays. A two-day steak and kidney pie with a suet top, involving the most terrifying kitchen appliance of all -  the pressure cooker. My best modern-day pie is the Cheese and Onion Pie at the Railway Inn next to Mobberley train station. Here is a photo of my dad and daughter Jessa selecting the perfect beverage to wash down the pie."

Jayne, Production

"Steak and Ale Pie from Sextons bakery in Lymm."

Jenny, Operations

"Meat and gravy pie from Ann at Belfield Bakery in Bollington."

John, Corah Knitwear, Nottingham

"Either the lamb & mint or the steak & ale pie from Ravenshead farm shop "

Micheal, Jones Buttons, Nottingham

"Streak pie from my local butcher Meat4U in Beeston Nottingham. £3.50 and absolutely crammed with steak (almost too much!) "

Grace, Production

"Steak and Ale pie from The Whitaker Inn in Rawtenstall."
