The Breton Stripe Top

It was in the 1920’s that Coco Chanel popularised the Breton, making it one of French fashion's most enduring exports. Classically composed of a narrow navy stripe with a wider white stripe in a mid weight pure cotton jersey, it was named for the uniform worn by the Breton sailors of the French navy. Quarry Bank in Cheshire is a jewel in the National Trust's crown. One one of the largest, and grandest, textile mills in Britain and today it is a beautiful monument to the very best of British ingenuity and skill. Set within a picture postcard perfect industrial community are it’s working spinning and weaving sheds producing exceptional quality cotton fabrics on their beautifully maintained historic machinery. We have worked with Quarry Bank to produce a small range of beautiful clothing using this most unique of cloths.
