When he set about developing our rugby shirt, Community Clothing founder Patrick Grant wanted them to be as good as the shirts he wore when he played the game in the 1980’s and early 1990’s. These were shirts that were made here in the UK, from the best quality heavy duty cotton jersey, reinforcing them with heavy cotton herringbone tape, a using only the best cotton twill for the collar, and rubber buttons to close. You could feel the quality, and our shirts had to feel the same.

To get the right quality rugby shirt jersey we turned to man who has been making the best quality cotton rugby jersey for over 30 years. Roy Powley worked for great names from British sportswear history like Stag and Medallion and following in their traditions Roy produces a 14 gauge single jersey, in pure cotton, in a 320 gram/m2 weight. This is the blue riband of rugby jersey. And where do we knit this incredible quality Jersey? Well in Rugby of course.

HOW TO MAKE A WORLD BEATING RUGBY JERSEY

Every Community Clothing rugby shirts is individually hand cut (to ensure the stripes are always a perfect match) and individually hand sewn in Derbyshire by a small team of exceptionally skilled makers who make rugby shirts for some of the best known premium brands. We use only the every best quality jersey, knitted in Rugby by a small family run knitting mill that has been doing nothing but knit jersey for over 30 years, and finished in Leicester (another town that knows a bit about rugby) in a specialist cotton finishing mill. We source our herringbone cotton tape and cotton twill for our collars and plackets from specialist manufacturers also here in England, and every detail on our shirt conforms to the exacting standard of the international rugby jerseys of the 1980’s upon which it was based.

We only use the very best materials from trusted supplier, and only work with the very best factories, because we believe that consistency is the only route to genuine quality.

EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY AT AN EXCEPTIONAL PRICE

We believe in making only the very best quality clothing, in the best UK factories, from the best materials on earth. Like our fantastic quality pure cotton rugby shirt. Its comfortable, its durable, and thank to our unique business model its great value too.

Making rugby shirts this good is expensive, and at most other brands you’ll have to choose; a shirt that’s good, or a shirt that’s affordable. And that’s because it’s standard practice for clothing brands to mark up their manufacturing costs by five times or more. So only around 20% of the price you pay for an item actually goes on making it.

That’s because other brands spend huge amounts of money on things like expensive marketing campaigns, advertising, celebrity endorsements, and all sorts of other things that have nothing to do with making good clothes.

At Community Clothing we don’t do any of that. We prefer to let the quality of our product speak for itself so our mark-ups that are about a third of most other brands, and so are our prices.

Take our classic rugby shirt for example. You can buy an almost identical rugby shirt from another premium UK brand at just under £200. Our cost just £59.

GREAT FOR MEN AND WOMEN, BIG AND SMALL, SHORT AND TALL

Our shirts are traditionally cut, with a looser more relaxed fit. Because of their traditional square cut they fit just as well on women as they do on men. We offer our rugby shirt in sizes from Men’s XS to Men's XXL, with Men’s 3XL and 4XL coming very soon.

To be notified of the launch of our larger sizes please sign up to our Newsletter below, where you’ll be first to hear about all new products, sizes and colours.

FIT FOR EVERY BODY

We know that a great fit is vital so we go to great lengths to ensure that every pair of jeans we sell fits as well as they can do. One of the ways we achieve this is by testing our fits on a panel made up of denim wearers of all shapes and sizes.

Our test panel is made up of professional fit models alongside regular Community Clothing customers all of shapes and sizes who give up their time to help you get the best fitting jeans possible.

If you would like to volunteer to join the fit or wear test panel please sign up to Our Community and we will let you have details when places become available.

GET SHORTY

We make our cotton shorts to the same exacting standards as our cotton trousers. They are available year round in flat front and pleated styles in a range of colours.

They are made in the same British factory, from the same exceptional quality 7.5oz pure cotton twill, that we use for our chinos.

TROUSERS WITH A WORKWEAR PEDIGREE

At CC we don’t just strive for flawless fit we engineer our chinos for exceptional comfort and durability. To achieve this we start with the best quality fabric, and sew our chinos without compromise in a factory which knows all there is to know about making hardwearing clothing.

We source all of the fabrics for our men’s chinos from Brisbane Moss of Todmorden in West Yorkshire. They have over 100 years experience in sourcing and manufacturing the best quality cotton fabrics specialising in cotton raising, for the making of moleskins and corduroys. Today they bring that breadth of technical knowledge to bear on the design and sourcing of their range of exceptional trouser fabrics, including pure cotton twills, plains and panamas, and stretch cottons, commission weaving and finishing at trusted partner mills.

We make our chinos at Cookson & Clegg in Blackburn. Established in 1860 their dedicated team of craftspeople have a long history in producing exceptional quality legwear and were supplier to the British Army of combat clothing for over 70 years.
