Many of you love the Field trouser, our heavy duty military inspired wide leg chinos. We’ve sold lots and lots of them this year (are we finally getting over our 20 year obsession with skinny?). So many in fact that we’ve decided to launch them in denim!
Strictly speaking this is actually a relaunch because I sold lots of denim ones under my E. Tautz label (the cool kids of Tokyo and New York loved them), but we’ve never done them for Community Clothing.

I’ve had my own denim field jeans for about 12 years now. For a while I wore them more than almost anything else, and I’ve worn them in all sorts of ways, mostly tucked and rolled with a pair of classic redwings or some other sturdy boot, but I’ve worn them with a crease down the front with a smart shoe (see the pic above), and increasingly these days I wear them just as we make them, longer and wide.
We’re doing them in two denims; indigo with a classic tobacco stitch, and blue with a more contemporary ecru stitch. Like all of our chinos and jeans, they are hand cut and sewn in Lancashire. We've made a video where I talk a bit more about them, watch it below and tell us what you think.
The Field Jean is based on 1950s military workwear. It has a loose, ultra-wide straight leg that you can wear full length or roll up. It’s made from 13.5oz raw, unwashed recycled denim that’s fully traceable: the cotton is grown, recycled, spun and woven in Turkey. Each pair is then hand cut and sewn in Lancashire.

I have long fancied including a classic Guernsey in our collection and so last summer I was delighted to have the chance to visit the Le Tricoteur factory on the island's western coast.
Everything we do is a celebration of the people, the skills and the traditions of the amazing factories we work with, all of them the very best of their kind, all of them deeply embedded in the culture and history of their communities.
